Interested in becoming an Emergency Medical Technician?

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the George Washington University  is excited to announce a summer EMT-Basic program oriented toward high school and first/second year college students. This program is an intensive 6 ½ week program for those interested in a healthcare delivery career (future physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses, paramedics, hospital administrators, public health workers, health care lawyers, and other medical professionals).

Taught by practicing GW clinicians and educators, students will complete the didatic portion of the EMT-Basic program with both daily lectures and hands-on simulation. Students will also have rotations in the Emergency Department setting.

Students will receive their Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers card, as well as additional certifications earned during the Institute. At the conclusion of the course, those who have successfully completed all modules, and are at least 18 years of age will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) EMT-Basic certification examination. For more information on requirements for National Registry, please go to: NREMT EMT-Basic. Students older than 17 years of age on July 1, 2011 are eligible to take this course but must be 18 before taking the National Registry exam.
