○BLS eLearning (Skills Session)

The American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider Course is widely recognized as the CPR card of healthcare workers. The course is intended for certified or non-certified, licensed or non-licensed professionals that work in the field of healthcare.

A new option for renewal certification is the e-Learning skills session, which employs a hybrid educational model. This course is an option for healthcare providers seeking an alternative to classroom-based training for renewal certification. Those seeking the traditional classroom renewal course should visit the BLS Renewal Courses.

The eLearning courses, available for purchase through OnlineAHA.org, offer a flexible training option for busy healthcare professionals. The complete course is delivered in two parts. Part 1 delivers the cognitive learning through Web-based, self-paced modules. The online portion features a series of online modules covering the required adult, child and infant CPR sequences. After the content is covered, an online test and evaluation must be completed. Part 2 is where students meet with a BLS Instructor to complete a hands-on skills session.

This course includes the same material as the traditional classroom based course including the for adults, children, and infants:

• Recognizing Medical Emergencies
• Accessing the Appropriate Emergency Resources
• Proving CPR (including 1 and 2-rescurer scenarios)
• Providing Ventilations with a Bag-Valve Mask device (BVM)
• Relief of a Foreign-Body Airway Obstruction (Choking)
• Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

The e-Learning option is a convenient option for adult learners, but is only recommended for healthcare providers who provide resuscitation on a regular basis as part of their duties of work.

Completed Online Certificate (either BLS Online Part 1 or HeartCode BLS)

Successful performance of the online modules and skills exam is required for a completion card.
